Ashley Sand-stead paced four Buffalo Grove players in double figures, scoring 14 points. Taking advantage of a very slow start by Washington, the host Bison cruised to a 71-41 victory. "I asked what they did over the break by themselves," said Washington coach Gerald Ewing.

A 5-0 run midway through the second quarter got Washington within 13 points. The Minutewomen only managed back-to-back scores once in the first three quarters.

Jl MilMIMIWBPJ PMUBPPBHw jjini JV; jjJ Jf3 JlllmFlM LP LrU LEE LE5 BY PAUL TREMBACKI Times Correspondent HAMMOND Playing a game the day after a tough loss to a nonconference team is nice, and so is getting hot early and beating a conference foe.

Bishop Noll enjoyed both feelings Saturday night in a 64-48 win that kept the Warriors perfect in the LAC Black. "The difference tonight that we hit shots, and if this team starts hitting shots, we can t)lay with anybody," Bishop Noll coach Ed Fierek said. "This was a momentum-builder because I don't think many people thought we'd be 4-0 in the conference with all the changes that took place here." The Warriors (6-5, 4-0 LAC Black), who lost 51-45 to Horace Mann Friday, suffered through the exodus of two players and their coach in the offseason. But juniors Gary Patterson and Vince Johnson remain the team's constants. Johnson had 18 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for Noll, and Patterson had 20 points five below his average, but satisfactory nonetheless.

"Everyone's starting to key on me, so we need to get other people involved," Patterson said. "Tonight everyone got involved and made some easy baskets, and we looked good." Using better ball distribution and the outside shooting of Patterson, Bishop Noll built a 19-10 lead in the first quarter and gradually built on it until the fourth quarter when Lowell got hot. "When you get down early, you get away from your game plan," Lowell coach Mike Ma-gleysaid. Conversely, Noll's big lead allowed the Warriors to follow their game plan with precision. "When we make a lot of shots, it allows us to press, and when we press we speed our opponent's game up," Patterson said.

"Then we don't have to always drop into our half-court defense, and we've been having problems in the half-court." The Warriors eventually increased their lead to 21 points at the end of the third quarter, but then Lowell warmed up from 3-point range. Michael Miller, who led Lowell with 16 points, hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter when Lowell cut the deficit to as low as 16 points. However, as soon as Lowell (3-5, 1-3) showed the faintest signs of a comeback attempt, Bishop Noll went to the basket and got either easy layups, free throws or both. Johnson, who watched Patterson score in bunches in the first and third quarter, had eight points in the fourth quarter. "Vince needs a double-double every night, and he knows we need that from him," Fierek said.

"He has confidence; he just needs to bring it up." Magley said the Red Devils allowed Noll to execute their game plan too easily throughout the game. "They live off defense, and they forced us away from the basket," Magley said. "We didn't get strong and go to the basket. We didn't accept the challenge." ALL CEPJTERIFIRE FEDERAL 'I 4 t. I tit!
