Akins, age 87, of North Vernon, Indiana (a former resident of the Calumet area), passed away at Munster Med-Inn on Wednesday, September 11, 1991 following a long illness. He is survived by one son, Herbert Estel (Shirley) Akins of Englewood, Colorado; one daughter, Carolyn (James, Jr.) Owen of Sauk Village, Illinois; six grandchildren, K. Michael (Linda) Akins and Elizabeth Bockenstedt, both of Littleton, Colorado, Douglas Chapman of Binghamp-ton, N. Brenda Wilson of Sauk Village, Illinois, Barry Chapman of Chicago, Illinois and Dorothy Chapman of Sauk Village, Illinois; seven great grandchildren; cousin, Lillian Cheever of Boyton Beach Florida; half brothers, Herman Akjjis of Seymour Indiana and Clayton Akins of Paris Crossing, Indiana; and half sister, Agnes Bishop of Riverview, Florida. Akins was retired from General American Transportation East Chicago, Indiana and a retired farmer in Jennings County, Indiana.
