Rider. Winners were picked following a three-hour long tour by the judges. The winners were Judged on originality and display. Noble Farmer Wins Contour Corn Content LAFAYETTE Carl E. Harvey of Kendllville, a N'oble county soil conservation district supervisor and farmer, has been named winner of a loving cup presented by personnel of the U.

S. Conservation Service for producing the highest yield in the contour division of the 1949 Five-Acre Corn club contest. Announcement of the award was made today by R. O. Cole, Purdue university extension soil conservationist.

Harvey's official yield was 144.7 bushels of corn per acre. Fifty-eight Hoosier farmers produced 100 bushels or more per acre in the contour division. This division is open to all farmers growing corn on the contour on land having at least two per cent lope. They must also meet requirements of the regular corn contest. Forty-three entries finished below the 100-bushel mark.

Second place in the contour division went to Lowell Smith, Parke county, who produced 144.2 bushels per acre. Other high-ranking contestants were Carl Palin, Montgomery county, whose yield was 136.8 bushels per acre; Elmer T. Coons, Montgomery, 135.5; Charles Withrow, Tippecanoe, 132.6; Donald M. Ricker. Clinton, 129.6; G.

C. Rose, Parke, 128.9; Chajrles Kirk-patrirk, Montgomery, and Robert Lee Miller, Knox, 127.9 each; Hubert Glascock, Fountain, 126.4; Dallas W. Miller, Knox, 126.3; Lewis Withrow, Tippecanoe, 125.6; and David Modisett, Parke county, 125.4 bushels. The 1949 contest winner has a farm conservation plan with the Noble county soil conservation district and employs good land-use practices in his farming, Cole said. He uses diversion ditches to slow water run-off, plants his row crops on the contour, and follows recommended fertility and crop rotation practices.
