Survivors: four daughters, Verta Marlowe of Hammond, Mary, (Cecil) Mullins of Indiana Illinois, and Effie (Charles) Neivels of Judy (Hershel) Stiefel Jr. of Crown Point; two brothers, Paul (Mary Rose) Howard of Cedar Lake and Hubert (Martha) Howard of Schneider; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Howard. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19, 1979 at 1 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.L. Twitty officiating.

Miss Lichtsinn was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Munster and a lifetime resident of Hammond. JOHN F. WILCZYNSKI John F. Wilczynski, age 71 of Hammond, passed away Thursday, March 15, 1979 at his residence.

OTTO W. SAMUELSON Otto W. Samuelson, age 72, of Crown Point, passed away Thursday, March 15, 1979, St. Anthony Medical Center, Crown Point. Survivors: one son, James (Drue) Samuelson of Crown Point; two sisters, Eleanore Samuelson and Hazel Collins; three brothers, Leslie, Lester, and Walter Samuelson; three grandchildren, Stacy, Sonja, and Jimmy.

Mr. Merriman was a teacher in the Whiting High School for 47 years in the Industrial Art Division; member of the National Teacher's Association; member and past master of the Whiting Masonic Lodge No. 613; member of the Ancient Scottish Rites Valley of South Bend; member of the United Methodist Church which he served as a member at large of the Administrative Board; member of the adult Fund and Recreation Group. Mr. Merriman was the organizer of the First Drivers Training Class of Lake County; resident of the Calumet area for the past 67 years.

MARIANNE F. CLARKE Marianne F. Clarke, age 56 of 75 Ski Hill Ogden Dunes, formerly of Hammond, passed away Friday, March 16, 1979. Survivors: husband, Douglas; two daughters, Ruby (William) Fenton of West Lafayette and Victoria (George) Benson of Gary; two sons, Douglas Clarke of Hazelcrest, Ill. and Forrest Clarke of West Lafayette; three brothers, Eugene Fauber of Munster, Dean Fauber of Milwaukee.

Wisc. and Clarence Fauber of Terre Haute; three grandchildren. Mrs. Clarke will be taken to the Indiana University Medical Center for anatomical study. Memorials in her name are requested by the family to the Ogden Dunes Community Church youth fund.

(Barbara) Kacer of New Haven, two daughters, Amy (Kenneth) Canner of Hammond and Anne (John) Surber of Whiting; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. CRAIG COURTICE Craig Thornton Courtice, age 33 of Munster, passed away suddenly Friday, March 16, 1979. Survivors: wife, Rebecca (nee Francis); daughter, Sarah Margaret, at home; mother, Bettye J. (Maynard) Adams of Lincolnshire, father, Dr. Thornton W. (Carole) Courtice; two Sisters, Cydney and Courtney, all of Highland; two uncles, John C.

(Josephine) Moorman and Dr. Clyde Courtice; several cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19, 11 a.m. from the Fagen-Miller Funeral Gardens, 2828 Highway Highland with the Rev. Duane Stidham officiating.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Courtice was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. He graduated from Indiana University School of Business, Bloomington.

He was a partner in Fetterolf, Courtice LaGrange, member of the Woodmar Country Club of Hammond and the Housewares Club of Chicago, Ill. Memorials may be donated to the Children's Pediatric Ward, Munster Medical Research Foundation at the Munster Community Hospital. Ugandan Battle NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) Ugandan troops for the first time stood and fought an invasion force of Tanzanians and Ugandan exiles, resulting in hundreds of deaths in the heaviest fighting of the war, reports from East Africa capitals said Saturday. Tanzanian officials said Ugandan President Idi Amin took the war back into Tanzania Saturday as Ugandan warplanes struck the town of Kyaka, 20 miles inside Tanzania. The Tanzanians said only one Tanzanian was wounded and three Ugandan planes were shot down.

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) Hanoi proposed Saturday that Vietnamese and Chinese negotiators open peace talks in the war-ravaged Vietnamese border town of Lang Son next Friday, five weeks after Chinese forces struck across the frontier to "punish" Vietnam. Chinese Vice Premier Deng Xiaoping (Teng Hsiao-ping) said in Peking Saturday night that Chinese troops have "entirely" withdrawn from Vietnam.

Richard von Weizsaecker, leader of West Berlin's Christian Democrats, is rated as having a good chance of unseating Mayor Dietrich Stobbe because a number of splinter parties may take votes away from Stobbe's governing Social Democrats in the city assembly. The SPD, led by Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, governs West Germany. 2 Acquitted HONG KONG (AP) Two men sentenced to die in China as counterrevolutionaries were acquitted after a retrial, the Hong Kong Communist newspaper Wen Wei Po reported Saturday. The paper said Zhu Fengqi and Zhang Min were arrested in 1975 for criticizing former Defense Minister Lin Piao and the radical leaders who have come to be known as the "Gang of Four," and were convicted and sentenced to death in November 1977. Both appealed to China's Supreme Court, which ordered a new trial that resulted in acquittal.

Lin died in a plane crash in 1971, reportedly while fleeing to the Soviet Union after an attempt to kill Chairman Mao Tse-tung. Terrorist Seized ATHENS, Greece (AP) Police said Saturday they captured one of Greece's most wanted men, alleged rightist terrorist Apostolos Protopappas, 32, after a brief gunfight at an apartment building. He is accused of being a member of the National Resurrection group, which claims responsibility for a series of bombings in Athens since democracy was restored to Greece in 1974. The group supports the militarybacked dictatorship that ruled from 1967-1974. The bombings caused damage and injuries but no deaths.

Plowing Record NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) Kenyan farmer Fanie Kruger claimed a world plowing endurance record Friday, plowing his father's farm no op for 54 hours, 24 minutes. Kenyan government officers supervised the feat. Kruger left the tractor seat for only 24 minutes. Farming sources said the previous record was set by a British farmer, John Sephton, at 50 hours in 1974. Hotel Strike NCIA, Spain (AP) A three-day strike by 30,000 hotel workers in this city on the Mediterranean ended Saturday with a contract agreement.
