Oprisko and his brothers, who were Americans, were inspired by their patriotism to join the military during World War II. At 18, Oprisko enlisted in the Marine Corps. Ed, who died in the war, was in the Army Air Corps and George was in the Army. Albert Oprisko, 86, of Whiting, died May 1.

He was stationed in the South during World War II and survived the attack on Iwo Jima. Dorothy Williams said her brother, a past commander and lifetime member of Whiting American Legion Post 80, loved his country. Oprisko also belonged to the Marine Corps League, two Iwo Jima associations, the Lions Club of Calumet City and the International Association of Electrical Engineers. As an engineer, Oprisko traveled to every state and earned a plaque from Delta Airlines. Williams said Mexico was favorite destination.

Oprisko was proud of his part in the major electrical project for the building of McCormick Place in Chicago. Oprisko was mechanically inclined and enjoyed mentoring. Williams said Oprisko was a great older brother growing up in Whiting with their seven siblings. She remembers falling off her bicycle at Whiting Park on the gravel. She had been forbidden to go there.

Oprisko cleaned her wound and never tattled to their parents. When Williams started her job at Oprisko bought her an to wear. He enjoyed collecting anything electrical and reading repair manuals. the hardware store have something somebody needed, he Williams said. Whiting man survived Iwo Jima ALBERT F.

Salmon, age 71, of Hammond, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Leona (nee Gish); son, Adam Salmon of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. PEARL L. MASON EAST CHICAGO, IN Pearl L. Mason, age 73, of East Chicago, IN passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Community Hospital in Munster. She is survived by one daughter, Paula Mason of East Chicago; one granddaughter, Chloe Moore of East Chicago; one brother, Allen Edwards of Schererville; one nephew, Keith Fleming of Gary; one niece, Sherry Hicks of Gary; brother in law, Willie Williams of East Chicago; special friend, Robert Lipkovitch of East Chicago; and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by mother and father, Willianna and Hallis Edwards; two sisters: Marlene Pugh and Barbara Williams; three brothers: Robert and David Whitfield and Willie Dennis.

Flynn, of Aurora, CO, after fighting cancer for two years, passed away peacefully at home with her two loving daughters by her side on Monday, June 11, 2012. She is survived by her five children: Dawn (Bob) Swadley, Christina (Jory) Flynn, Mark, Todd, and Scott Brookbank; seven grandchildren: Brooke, Tyler, Lindsey, Sunnie, Cameron, Keiran, and Autumn; three siblings: John (Jessie) Collie, Amy J. Collie, and James (Kathy) Collie; several nieces, nephews, other extended family, and innumerable friends.

Aggie, as she liked to be called, was a 1956 graduate of Horace Mann High School, Gary, IN where, due to her warm and friendly nature, she was voted Senior Queen. In her dealings with all others, one word characterized her personality: EMPATHY HARRY EDWARD DUNMIRE GRIFFITH, IN Harry Edward Dunmire, age 82, of Griffith passed away Thursday July 5, 2012 at Riley Hospice. Harry was born May 26, 1930 in Monongahela, PA where he grew up until he joined the United States Army. He was proud to be a veteran and spent much of his time at the VFW and American Legion playing cards. He loved dining, dancing and telling his stories.

Just like he did as owner of Harry Irene's Restaurant. Irene kept the customers happy with her home cooking and Harry with his gift of gab. Harry is survived by three daughters: Linda (Bobby) Hart, Michelle Hart, and Nancy (Mike) Rutkowski; grandchildren: Marsha Hart, Sam Hart, and Corey Rutkowski; great grandchildren: Zackery and Mercedes Hart-Darnell all of Griffith; sister-in-law, Rita Melia of Lansing IL; brother- in-law, Benny LaMonto of Chicago, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Irene; parents: George and Helen Dunmire (nee Bishop); and grandson, Brandon L. Hart.

MARY C. GALBREATH HAMMOND, IN FORMERLY OF DYER, IN Mary Galbreath, age 59, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012. She is survived by her loving son, James (fiance Tanya) Lessner; grandchildren: Patrick, Jimmy, Haleigh-Kay, Hannah and Halen; siblings: Paul David (Maryann) Galbreath and Jean Galbreath-Seliger. Aunt of numerous nephews, great nephews, and one niece. Preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Marie Galbreath.

Mary loved gardening, sewing, babysitting her grandsons, and caring for her animals. She dedicated her life to raising her son and taking care of her family. Robert was born July 16, 1920 in Roseland to the late Stephen and Mary (nee Michuda). Beloved husband of the late Martha (nee Wicherek). Loving father of Thomas (Jacqueline) Holba, Joan (David) Sawyer, and Dr.

Richard (Kathy) Holba. Cherished grandfather of 14; proud great-grandfather of 27 and one on the way. Dearest brother of the late John and Joseph Holba. Fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Also survived by his loving caregiver Maria Teach.

Robert was retired from Federal Signal Corp. in University Park, IL. He was a World War II veteran having served in the South Pacific and included in an Honor Flight to D.C. in 2010. Robert was a member of VFW South Holland Post 9964, St.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Eve; sons: Art (Bonnie) Berke and Larry Smenyak; and daughter, Marilyn (Andrew) Berke- Powers. He was the loving grandfather of Chad, Dex, and Jared. Seymour was a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana and graduated from East Chicago Washington High School.

He was a manager at Goldblatt's Department Store in Hammond for more than two decades, a merchant in Indiana Harbor for many years, and most recently owned a successful lighting business. Seymour was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was an avid fan of the White Sox, Bears, Bulls, and the sports teams at Indiana University where all three of his children graduated. Along with his generous spirit, which was familiar to all who came in contact with him, he had a special affinity toward dogs, particularly his favorite canines: Satchmo, Sparky, Spirit, Happy, Ernie, Salty, Cleo, Chloe, and Coco.

"JO JO" LAKE STATION, IN Joseph "Jo Jo" Finoli, age 58, of Lake Station, passed away at home July 5, 2012, while surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 7-year battle with cancer. He was born in Gary, IN on July 9, 1953 to Joseph and Helen Finoli, who preceded him in death. Joe enjoyed raising pigeons and was an honorary member of NWI Racing Pigeon Association. A jack of all trades, he enjoyed building, gardening and fishing.

Joe was a hobbyist who also enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles. His loving and giving heart will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
